"Through faith, all things are possible"

Special Programs

Faith Primary School offers several special programs and field trips throughout the year. Some of of these include:

Friday Night Prime Time. Each year, usually in late winter, a special evening of reading is offered for students and their families. Students return to the school late on a Friday afternoon, loaded down with reading material and something comfy on which to curl up. Parent volunteers are put in charge of a small group of students, and help them get from one activity to another. For students who are not yet fluent readers, they read to them, but older students read independently. In addition to having supper at the school, students take part in craft activities related to that year’s particular theme. In 2006, the theme was “Charlotte’s Web”, and students constructed farm scenes and spider webs. Wilbur, Templeton the rat, and, of course, Charlotte were in attendance. The finale of the evening was local actor, author and storyteller Barbara Lawson, who entertained one and all with another story of a spider. This event, which celebrates the love of reading, is one which students and parents thoroughly enjoy!

Math Heads Club. This math club meets regularly for gifted or highly motivated math students at Faith Primary School. Students are coached by classroom teachers and parent volunteers who help them explore the wonderful world of mathematics. They enjoy playing games together as well as independently in the computer lab and online at home. All Math Heads work together to accumulate points as a team, competing on the local and state level. Students can earn rewards when the team reaches pre-determined levels. All students in the school are registered with First In Math, an online web site that enables them to build their mathematics skills, working from one level to the next.

Great Artists. Our art instructor, Barbara Phillips, introduces students in the second through fourth grades to famous artists of different time periods and styles. The students are given a brief biographical sketch of the artist and the instructed using media or techniques similar to those used by the artist being studied. In this way, they are able to gain an understanding of the artist and his style. During the three years that the students study the Great Artists, they can be introduced to over 40 different famous artists, whose works range from frescos to mobiles to “found art”. At the end of the year, student artwork is displayed for parents, families and the members of the Blue Ridge Chapel Church community. During the year, artwork is constantly on display in the hallways, dressing up and adding life to the school.
