"Through faith, all things are possible"

Religious Life

Religious life is a central part of Faith Primary School. Weekly chapel services are age appropriate and are conducted by Blue Ridge Chapel clergy and local pastors who come and share God's word with the students and teachers. Faith Primary School stresses discernment, not doctrine, and is inclusive of all cultural and religious traditions. Teachable moments, both inside the classroom and out, are used to foster in each student a love of God, a respect for others and their traditions, and a sense of each child’s self-worth.

Throughout the history of Faith Primary School, both the school and the Church have been involved in a variety of mission projects that have been designed to inform the students of the needs of others in areas beyond their own community.

St. John's Episcopal Church, Faith Primary School's original home, is in a companion relationship with The Episcopal Church of Sudan, and over the years has sought to relieve the suffering of the Christians in southern Sudan. Students and parishioners have collected money enabling Sudanese women to purchase goats, which they raise, selling the milk, meat and eventually the kids to support their children and themselves.

Students have “adopted” a deployed soldier stationed in Iraq, sending letters, toiletries, sports equipment, books and games to show their support during his deployment. School supplies, sports equipment and personal notes and pictures were also sent through Army chaplains when members of the U.S. Army began working to rebuild schools.

Fourth and fifth grade students at Faith Primary School are looked up to as leaders and therefore are encouraged to display wise decision making skills and to demonstrate leadership characteristics. They are the students who are asked to participate in the church service at the end of the year when Faith Primary School students and families are invited to worship with the congregation of their home church. They are asked to do the readings from the Bible for that Sunday, and to lead the congregation in the Prayers of the People, which they help to write.
